Time: An Uphill Battle

Okay, so I might not always be flying out the door , but I will readily admit that I am constantly paranoid of being late. The idea of being even a minute late has such a hold on me that almost all of my clocks at home (with the exception of my computer and phone clock) are set 15 minutes fast, just so I have a chance of showing up early.

And yet, I still find myself in a constant battle against time. And traffic. But mostly, time.

Maybe it’s because I live in Richmond. See, I live and work in Richmond. My work is approximately 12 minutes away (according to Google Maps) from my house. And yet, I’ll leave 30 minutes prior to the time I’m starting my shift, just because I don’t want to be late. And somehow, I still end up cutting it extremely close.

How do you try to stay on time? Listening to AM 730 (all traffic, all the time) helps a little bit. Setting my clocks ahead 15 minutes helps a little bit, but in the end, I just barely make it. Got any tips? I’m listening.

Setting your clocks ahead won’t work in the long run, because you’ll naturally start to compensate. If someone set the clocks fast on you and you didn’t know, then they may still work (in the short term).

I like setting my clock about 10 minutes ahead of time – not too much, because, as Michael said, you’ll KNOW you’re ahead of time. And, just do what you’re doing, but don’t be paranoid. It’s good to be early… you know what they say about the bird and the worm. I LOVE getting to meetings 5 minutes early with that extra time to log onto 4Sq or Twitter and saying I’ve arrived!
